肾萎缩可能导致肾功能衰竭、高血压、代谢性酸中毒、尿毒症等疾病，进而引起水肿。
1.肾功能衰竭
肾萎缩是指肾脏体积缩小，导致其过滤血液产生尿液的功能下降。这会引起废物和液体在体内积累，可能导致贫血、骨质疏松等并发症。
2.高血压
肾萎缩时，肾素-血管紧张素-醛固酮系统被激活，从而收缩外周血管并升高血压。长期高血压会导致心脏负荷增加，进而引起心肌肥厚或心力衰竭。
3.代谢性酸中毒
肾萎缩影响了肾脏清除体内过多的碳酸氢盐的能力，使得碳酸氢盐浓度降低，引发代谢性酸中毒。该疾病会导致身体内pH值失衡，引起疲劳、恶心、呕吐等症状。
4.尿毒症
